Tony Lujan

Tony began playing trumpet at the age of ten. He studied privately with local (NM) professionals and was voted into the All State and Albuquerque Youth Symphony. After attending a music clinic that featured jazz trumpet legend Clark Terry, Tony decided on jazz. Terry took Lujan under his wing and helped him develop a work ethic that made Tony a world class artist. Tony went on to study privately with Woody Shaw, Cat Anderson, Freddie Hubbard, Bobby Shew, and Carl Saunders.

Tony played lead trumpet in the national tours of musicals including A Chorus Line, Sweet Charity, 42nd Street, The Most Happy Fellow, and West Side Story. He was part of the big bands of Gerald Wilson, Bill Holman, Clark Terry, The Dizzy Gillespie Alumni All-Star Band, Ray Charles, and Bobby Burgess. He worked with the biggest names in show business including Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Robert Goulet, Wayne Newton, Debbie Reynolds, Bob Hope, and Aretha Franklin, but his heart was in Latin music.

He worked and recorded with Tito Puente, Eddie Palmieri, Louis Miguel, Francisco Aguabella, Pancho Sanchez, The Garcia Bros., Luis Bonilla, William Cepeda, Anthony Carrillo, Candido Rodriguez and others.
